Program Description

As a student in the History of Art and Architecture program, you'll develop a broad knowledge of the history of world art, architecture, and urbanism, and in-depth knowledge of chosen historical periods, regions, or mediums, including knowledge of style, iconography, spatial analysis, new media, and the relevant social and cultural conditions. You'll analyze an aspect of visual or spatial culture, historiography or cultural context in textual and visual form, and write papers and deliver oral presentations with clear, well-supported, and well-articulated arguments. You'll utilize interdisciplinary approaches to understand the manifold factors that contribute to the making of buildings, neighborhoods, cities, and landscapes, and their cultural and political significance.
