Program Overview
Overview of the Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways
The Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways (FSK10219) is designed to provide individuals with the necessary skills to prepare for a vocational pathway qualification or further foundation skills development. This qualification is suitable for individuals who require a pathway to employment or vocational training, reading, writing, oral communication, learning, and numeracy skills primarily aligned to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 2.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this qualification may choose to continue on to other vocational pathway qualifications or further foundation skills development.
Structure and Availability
The course is typically delivered over a twenty-four-week period; however, as it is competency-based, it may be possible for learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level. Full-time students will be required to study a minimum of 11.5 hours per week, and this includes assessment preparation.
Course Structure
The course structure includes:
- Career, employment, and training
- Workplace interaction
- Maths at work
- Workplace information and text
- Use of business technology
Units of Competency
The course comprises 11 units of competency, including: 1 core unit and 10 elective units. Elective units must be relevant to vocational pathways and not duplicate the outcomes of already selected units.
Requirements
Entry requirements for this course include undertaking a pre-training assessment using the Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) to determine if the learner's skill level is below the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 3. Additional language and literacy pre-assessments with a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) specialist are also required to determine eligibility for Foundation Skills funding into this course.
Fees and Scholarships
Course tuition fees are subject to change and are reviewed annually. Apprenticeship and traineeship subsidy eligibility is not assessed in the eligibility calculator. Subsidies reduce the cost of tuition fees for TAFE courses, reducing the amount of money students need to pay. Eligibility and conditions apply.
Fee for Service/Full Fee
Fee for Service/Full Fee occurs when the full tuition fee is charged to students. This may occur when the course is not included in government subsidy programs or the student is not eligible for a government subsidy.
Co-Contribution and Co-Contribution Concessional Fee
Some government-funded training programs require students to contribute to the cost of their education through a co-contribution fee. This fee varies depending on the course and the student's eligibility for a concessional rate.
How to Apply
To apply for this course, students must meet the course requirements, get a Unique Student Identifier, prepare eligibility documentation, submit their application, and complete bksb testing. The last day to apply is Monday, 19 January 2026.
