Program Overview

Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours)

The Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours) is a four-year full-time course that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a qualified podiatrist. Podiatrists are in-demand health professionals who deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and the lower limb.

Overview

In this course, students will study a broad range of discipline-specific content taught by industry experts, including anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, pharmacology, musculoskeletal and sports podiatry, medical imaging, the high-risk foot, paediatrics, and gerontology. Students will also learn to safely and effectively prescribe and inject local anaesthetic and perform minor surgical procedures.

Study Experience

The course provides practical learning experiences, including clinical placements at the purpose-built Allied Health Clinic at CQUniversity in Rockhampton, as well as in a variety of external clinical settings. Students will benefit from completing approximately 1000 hours of clinical placement, which will give them real-life experience and prepare them for their future careers.

Career Opportunities

The Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours) is a gateway to a career as a podiatrist across a diverse range of rural and urban settings, including hospitals, multi-disciplinary health clinics, community health centres, and private practice. Post-graduate progression pathways for podiatrists include credentialing pathways, endorsement for Scheduled Medicines, pathways into podiatric surgery, and undertaking a Research Higher Degree.
