Program Overview
Bachelor of Medical Imaging
The Bachelor of Medical Imaging is a four-year full-time course designed to prepare students to work as diagnostic radiographers. The course is offered on campus in Cairns and Mackay, with a blended delivery option that allows students to complete the first year online.
Course Overview
The course focuses on developing key competencies in digital technology, community engagement, and remote and rural innovation. Students will benefit from extensive clinical training in purpose-built labs using the latest imaging equipment and complete clinical placements to build their skills and experience working with clients in real-world settings.

The Bachelor of Medical Imaging prepares students to pursue a career as a diagnostic radiographer. Employment opportunities may exist in areas such as public and private hospitals, clinics, and community health care services.
Course Structure
The course consists of 24 units, including:
- Research Methods for Health Professionals
- Human Anatomy and Physiology 1
- Physics for Health Sciences
- Fundamentals of the Imaging Professions
- Professional Practice
- Patient Care in Medical Imaging
- Human Anatomy and Physiology 2
- Medical Pathophysiology
Clinical Placements
Students will complete 46 weeks of supervised clinical placements, broken into four blocks:
- Medical Imaging Clinical Experience 1 (8 weeks)
- Medical Imaging Clinical Experience 2 (11 weeks)
- Medical Imaging Clinical Experience 3 (11 weeks)
- Medical Imaging Clinical Practicum (16 weeks)

Fees and Scholarships
The indicative first-year fee is $11,750 (CSP). The course has Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available, and students may be eligible for a HECS-HELP government loan. Scholarships are also available to help with expenses and enhance employability.
