Program Overview


Bachelor of Oral Health

The Bachelor of Oral Health at CQUniversity equips students with the skills and knowledge to perform preventive and operative dentistry for patients across the lifespan. Students learn from experienced practitioners and benefit from hands-on experience treating real patients in CQUni's oral health simulation labs, Rockhampton Health Clinic, or at various external clinical placement sites.


Overview

This course enables students to apply to the Dental Board of Australia for registration as an Oral Health Therapist. It is designed to equip students with a broad skill set, ensuring they graduate work-ready. Students develop skills to effectively perform preventive and operative dentistry for patients and provide specialist dental practices. The course has a strong focus on work-integrated learning in pre-clinical and clinical settings.


Career Opportunities

Upon completion, students are eligible to apply for registration to work in general and specialist dental practices within Australia as an Oral Health Therapist. They can perform preventive and operative dentistry for patients across the lifespan and educate and promote oral health in small group and community settings.


Structure & Availability

  • The course structure and available locations can change depending on when students want to study.
  • Students must complete 20 units (144 credits), including core units and work-integrated learning components.
  • The course involves extensive training in a clinical environment, initially using simulator technologies before progressing to full-time clinical placements in an oral health environment.

Additional Information

  • Professional Recognition: The Bachelor of Oral Health course is accredited by the Australian Dental Council (ADC) and approved without conditions by the Dental Board of Australia (DBofA) until 31 December 2030.
  • Residential Schools: Students studying via Mixed Mode in non-oral health units may be required to attend residential schools.
  • Work Integrated Learning: The course includes work-based learning in the oral health simulation laboratory and oral health clinics on campus, as well as clinical placements in various settings.

  2. Prerequisites: English (Units 3 and 4, C); one of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics (Units 3 and 4, C)

  4. Recommended Study: Optional - English, Science, and Mathematics

Fees & Scholarships

  • Indicative First-Year Fee: $13,100 (2026 Indicative) (CSP)
  • Commonwealth Supported Places: This course has Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available.
  • HECS-HELP Loan: Students may be eligible for a HECS-HELP government loan if they are offered a CSP.
  • Other Study Costs: Part of the course costs will include Student Services and Amenities Fees (SSAF) and may include other costs such as textbooks, technology expenses, travel expenses, professional certifications, uniforms, or vaccinations.
