Urban Humanities Program
The Urban Humanities program investigates what it means to be human in an increasingly urban world. Through this program, students explore diverse subjects such as urban inequality, development and gentrification, forms of activism and advocacy, community planning, climate change, culture and art, criminal justice issues, and the dynamics of racial, ethnic and cultural diversity.
Program Description
The program is designed to provide students with a coherent framework to explore urban life and the flexibility to pursue individual courses of study that fit their interests and needs. With Montclair State University located in the center of one of the largest and most diverse urbanized areas in the United States, it serves as both a laboratory and source of career opportunities for students.
Career Opportunities
As an Urban Humanities student, training in qualitative, quantitative, and digital methods, as well as digital skills, provides highly marketable skills. Students will be well-prepared for a variety of careers related to urban issues, including:
- Urban planning
- Community, economic, and cultural development
- Urban administration
- Housing and real estate
- Museums and heritage work
