Program Overview


French Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification

The French Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification program is designed for individuals who wish to become licensed Preschool-12 French teachers in New Jersey. This 30-credit program offers a clear path to achieving this goal, with a curriculum that includes coursework in French subject matter preparation areas, teaching methods, and pedagogy, culminating in a Comprehensive Examination.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must have:


  • The equivalent of a U.S. bachelors degree.
  • Applicants with non-U.S. degrees must provide information on U.S. degree equivalency.
  • Note that F1/J1 visa seeking students are not eligible for this program.

Application Checklist

The application process involves submitting:


  1. An online application with a $60 non-refundable fee (or waiver if applicable).
  2. Transcripts from each college attended.
  3. A resume.
  4. Two letters of recommendation.
  5. Essays/Personal Statement, addressing specific questions related to teaching standards and classroom climate.
  6. Standardized test scores, as per the requirements outlined by the Center for Student Success and Educator Excellence.

Program Completion and Certification

Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), which allows them to begin teaching immediately and applies toward lifetime licensure. After completing one year of provisional teaching, students become eligible for a standard New Jersey teaching certificate. Exceptions apply for those who already hold a New Jersey standard certificate.


Teacher Certification Requirements

  • Students must have a bachelors degree and a passion for education.
  • Additional requirements for becoming a certified teacher are outlined in the program details.
  • The program is designed for students with a baccalaureate degree interested in teaching.
  • Upon completion, students are recommended to the New Jersey Department of Education for a teaching certificate.
