Program Overview


Post-Baccalaureate Pre-medicine Certificate Program

The Post-Baccalaureate Pre-medicine certificate (PBPPC) is a program designed for career changer students who have completed a baccalaureate education but still need to complete prerequisite coursework for eligibility for medical school.


Overview

Students also have an opportunity to gain medically-relevant experiences, exam preparation, and additional mentorship and advising support to be successful candidates in the medical school application process. The premedical courses align with published medical school prerequisite expectations.


Program Requirements

The Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program certificate (PBPPC) is for students who have previously earned a bachelors degree and requires:


  • Full-time enrollment in the fall and spring semesters
  • C or better in all premedical courses as indicated on individual student schedule (prepared by the program during the application process)
  • Satisfactory grade in the Introduction to Clinical Medicine (AS.020.350) course
  • Satisfactory grades in the Managing the Medical School Portfolio I & II courses
  • Satisfactory grade in at least one Medical Tutorial course

Coursework

The premedical courses include:


  • General Biology I (AS.020.151) & General Biology II (AS.020.152) with 1 year of associated labs (AS.020.153 & AS.020.154)
  • Introductory Chemistry I (AS.030.101) & Introductory Chemistry II (AS.030.102) with 1 year of associated labs (AS.030.105 & AS.030.106)
  • General Physics I for Biological Science Majors (AS.171.103) & General Physics/Biology Majors II (AS.171.104) with 1 year of associated labs (AS.173.111 & AS.173.112)
  • Introductory Organic Chemistry I (AS.030.205) & Biochemistry (AS.020.305) with 1 year of associated labs (AS.030.225)

Additional Courses

In addition to the premedical courses, students will participate in the following PBPPC courses:


  • Medical Tutorial
  • AS.020.609 Managing the Medical School Portfolio I
  • AS.020.610 Managing the Medical School Portfolio II
  • AS.020.350 Introduction to Clinical Medicine

Duration

Students are expected to complete the certificate in 9-14 months.
