Program Overview


Introduction to the Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy Program

The Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy course is a four-year program offered by the School of Health Sciences at the University of Aveiro. This program consists of 240 ECTS, with 60 ECTS devoted to Clinical Placement in several health institutions.


Program Objectives

The primary aim of this program is to qualify health professionals to perform excellently in all functions related to their professional content in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiotherapy. By the end of the study program, students should be able to:


  • Perform and evaluate diagnostic imaging studies in various areas, including Conventional Radiology, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasonography, Bone Densitometry, Positron Emission Tomography, and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and contrast media in clinical contexts.
  • Perform Imaging and dosimetry planning, execute conventional and virtual treatment simulation, and apply classical and advanced radiation therapy techniques.
  • Follow and apply radiological protection, safety, and quality control regulations.

Admissions

National Competition for Access

  • Admission tests: Biology and Geology, or Mathematics, or Biology and Geology and Physics and Chemistry.
  • The calculation of grades considers 50% of the secondary education grade and 50% of the admission test grade.
  • Openings for 2025/2026: 25 in the 1st phase, 2 in the 2nd phase.
  • Mark of the last person placed in 2025/2026: 140 in the 1st phase, 139.3 in the 2nd phase.
