Introduction to the BEng Professional Engineering Program
The BEng Professional Engineering program at Aston University is designed to provide students with the advanced engineering knowledge and skills necessary to qualify for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. This work-based learning experience enables students to apply their engineering knowledge and skills to undertake industrial projects that suit their job role and company.
Program Overview
The program is a 2-year work-based degree that allows students to earn while they learn. It is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and provides a flexible learning experience that combines academic education with practical skills training and application in the engineering sector.
Course Objectives
The program aims to:
- Widen access to higher education degrees and professional engineering registration at Incorporated Engineer (IEng) level.
- Provide students with the opportunities to realize their academic potential through blended distance learning.
- Provide students with appropriately structured curricula, combining academic education and learning in theoretical issues with practical skills training and application in the engineering sector.
- Provide students with a learning experience that helps solve real-life problems and offers added value to employers, students, and Aston University.
- Create engineers with the technical and transferable skills required to address the evolving needs of the engineering sector at national and international levels and contribute to local and global sustainable development issues.
Modules
The program consists of core and optional modules, including:
- Engineering Project Management (15 credits)
- Work-Based Project (45 credits)
- Sustainable Engineering (15 credits)
- Systems Engineering (15 credits)
- Maintenance Management Systems (15 credits)
- Engineering Materials and Manufacturing (15 credits)
- Quality Engineering (15 credits)
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a Foundation Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline and be in full-time employment with the support of their employer.
Assessment
The program is assessed through a combination of group and individual assessment methods, including online exams, quizzes, portfolios, case studies, presentations, and reports.
Career Prospects
Successful completion of the program provides opportunities to apply for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status and progress to the MSc Professional Engineering course, which allows application for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
Fees and Scholarships
The annual tuition fee for UK students is Ł9,250, and for international students, it is Ł19,000. Payment by installments is available to students paying their own fees.
