Mathematics Foundation Programme

The Mathematics Foundation Programme at Aston University is designed to provide students with the essential skills and knowledge to transition onto the BSc Mathematics degree. This programme is ideal for students who do not currently have the grades or subjects to progress straight onto an undergraduate degree programme within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.


Course Overview

The programme is a one-year full-time course that provides a clear path towards BSc Mathematics. Students will learn, collaborate, and flourish through a blend of academic modules, specific subject knowledge, and project-based learning with students in other digital areas and foundation students across different frameworks.


Course Description

Aston University's foundation programme in Mathematics will empower students with the essential skills and knowledge to transition onto BSc Mathematics. The programme provides first-class teaching, state-of-the-art facilities, and access to top-notch software licenses, including Adobe and Solidworks.


Course Objectives

The programme aims to:


  1. Provide the necessary fundamental skills and knowledge for progression into Stage 1 of study.
  2. Develop transferrable and communication skills required to be successful in further study.
  3. Develop ethical and inclusive, problem solvers and critical thinkers.

Entry Requirements

The standard offer for the programme is CCD at A-Level. Alternative entry requirements include:


  • BTEC: Extended Diploma and National Extended Diploma: Merit Merit Merit
  • IB: 26 including 3, 3, 3 in Higher Level subjects
  • Access: Successful completion of the QAA-recognised Access Diploma with 60 credits including 45 credits at Level 3
  • T Levels: All subjects are accepted at T Level: Merit
  • GCSEs: GCSE English Language or Literature minimum grade C/4, GCSE Mathematics minimum grade C/4
