Introduction to the Speech-Language Pathology Dual Admission Program
The Speech-Language Pathology Dual Admission program at Nova Southeastern University is designed for future speech-language pathologists. This program provides students with the skills to become competent and compassionate professionals, helping children master fluency, supporting stroke victims' recovery, and effectively working with individuals who struggle with social communication or speech disorders.
Program Overview
The Dual Admission program in speech-language pathology is offered to qualified freshmen, leading to a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology (M.S.). Students admitted to the program must major in Speech-Language and Communication Disorders (SLCD). Upon successful completion of the master's application process, students will be admitted to the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology if requirements are met.
Degrees Earned
Students can earn a bachelor's degree and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology.
Program Length
The program allows students to earn their bachelor's degree in four years and their master's degree in two and a half years.
Interview Required
Students applying for dual admission must interview during Shark Preview, an exclusive admitted student event.
Deadline to Apply
The deadline for fall admission is February 1.
Eligibility
To be considered for Dual Admission, students must meet certain requirements.
Undergraduate Admission Requirements
- GPA: 3.5 Weighted GPA (First-Time Students)
- ACT/SAT: No Test Required to Interview
Graduate Admission Requirements
- Degree Required: Completion of a bachelor's degree in any major
- Undergraduate GPA: Maintenance of a 3.2 cumulative GPA
- Essays: Submission of two essays with the graduate application
Additional Requirements
- Transfer Credits Through High School: College credits earned through advanced high school programs may transfer to NSU
- Placement Information: Initial course placement in mathematics, science, or composition may impact the timing of completion of dual admission prerequisites and major courses
Application Process
To apply for the Dual Admission program, students must:
- Apply for undergraduate admission using the NSU Application or the Common App
- Submit a supplemental application for Premier Programs
- Interview during Shark Preview
Program Details
The Dual Admission program provides the required coursework and clinical experiences necessary to obtain Florida licensure. Students will be prepared to begin their clinical fellowship experience to earn the Certificate of Clinical Competence awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The program includes research-based coursework and clinical hands-on experiences, ensuring that students are prepared not just for their licensing exams but also for improving their patients' lives.
