Introduction to the LLB (Hons) Law Program

Placement Year

The placement year is optional for LLB (Hons) Law students. It provides the chance to put theory into practice, gain relevant work experience, and develop professional and transferable skills. Students can also undertake a study placement with one of Aston University's international partner institutions.

How You Will Learn

Aston Law School follows Aston Universitys blended learning approach, which consists of a mix of in-person (on-campus learning) and online learning. The applied nature of the course means that students will experience a range of interactive teaching methods, including practical exercises, workshops, small group sessions, guest lectures, and group working.

Course Objectives

  2. Provides the opportunity to study the foundation subjects as prescribed by the professional bodies which underpin legal practice.

  4. Provides students with key analytical, research, and other transferable academic skills to promote lifelong learning and personal development.
  5. Ensures relevance in a constantly evolving employment environment by maintaining, enhancing, and engaging students with relevant legal, professional, and business links.
  6. Develops and enhances students' employability for a variety of graduate roles.

Modules

The program includes a variety of modules across different years, including:


  • Year 1: Legal System and Skills, Liability in Crime and Tort, Introduction to Contract and Property, Law of Business and Business Concepts, The Future of Law.
  • Year 2: Law in an Applied Context, Public Law and Regulation, Commercial Contracts and Practices, Land Law, and optional modules such as Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property and the Internet, Medical Law and Ethics, Employment Law, Commercial Law.
  • Placement Year: Integrated Placement Year.
  • Final Year: Legal Project Management: Business Law in Practice, and a range of optional modules including Advanced Criminal Law, Equity and Trusts, European Union Law, Commercial Property Law, Wills, Probate and Private Client, Business Ethics, Competition Law, Data Protection Law, Emerging Technologies, AI and Law, Family Law, International Commercial Law, International Human Rights Law, The Internet and the Law, Law Dissertation, Fraud, Bribery and Corruption, Product, Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship, Sports Law, Islamic Finance.

Entry Requirements

  • A Levels: BBB (standard offer), BBC (with EPQ or Core Maths minimum grade B), BBC (contextual offer).
  • BTEC: Extended Diploma - DDD (standard offer), DDM (contextual offer).
  • IB: 31 points overall in the IB diploma with 5, 5, 5 in 3 higher level subjects.
  • Access: We accept the QAA-recognised Access Diploma which must consist of 45 credits at Level 3.
  • T Levels: Accepted qualifications for this course include Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction, Digital Production, Design and Production, Education and Childcare, Onsite Construction, Building Services Engineering for Construction, Digital Business Services, Digital Support Services, Health, Healthcare Science, Science, Accounting, Finance, Management and administration, Design and development for engineering and manufacturing, Maintenance, installation and repair for engineering and manufacturing, Legal Services.
  • GCSEs: Maths grade C/4, English Language or English Literature grade C/4.

Assessment

At Aston Law School, authentic assessment methods are used in addition to traditional forms of assessment. Methods include letters of advice, interviews with supervisors, legal blog writing, group presentations and pitches, and academic posters. The aim is to make the course as interactive and student-focused as possible.
