Program Overview


Introduction to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology Program

The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) program at Nova Southeastern University is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent speech-language pathologists. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.


Program Overview

The MS-SLP program is a 54-credit hour program that can be completed in as few as eight terms. The program includes a combination of didactic coursework, clinical practicum, and externship experiences. Students can choose to complete the program on a full-time or part-time basis.


Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the MS-SLP program, applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Applicants must also complete six prerequisite courses in communication science and disorders, including introduction to communication science and disorders, anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms, phonetics, neuroanatomy, normal speech and language development, and audiology and aural rehabilitation.

Clinical Practicum and Externship

The MS-SLP program includes a clinical practicum and externship component, which provides students with hands-on experience in assessing and treating individuals with communication disorders. Students must complete a minimum of 400 supervised clinical contact hours before graduation.


Transfer of Credits

Students may transfer up to nine semester hours of credit from other regionally accredited institutions, provided that the courses are equivalent to those offered in the MS-SLP program.


Program Completion Requirements

To graduate from the MS-SLP program, students must complete all required coursework, clinical practicum, and externship experiences, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Students must also pass the Praxis II exam in speech-language pathology and complete a capstone project.

The MS-SLP program is designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the US protectorates.
