The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Post-Masters Certificate offers nurses with an acute care/critical care clinical practice background the opportunity to provide care to acutely ill adults. The program is implemented in partnership with Atrium Health. Graduates with this concentration will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN Certcorp) examination for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners.

Program Description
The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner graduate certificate concentration offers nurses with an acute care/critical care clinical practice background the opportunity to provide advanced nursing care to acutely ill adults. These advanced practice registered nurses will be prepared to function as Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AGACNP). Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners provide evidence-based care to acutely ill adults with urgent and emergent complex health issues and critically ill adults with life-threatening, rapidly changing physiological and pathophysiological conditions.
Credit Hours and Admissions
- Credit Hours: 20 credit hours, 9 additional hours required if applicant is not an APRN
- Admit: October 1 (priority deadline), January 1 (final deadline)
Program Outcomes
Graduates with this concentration will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN Certcorp) examination for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners.
Early Entry Option
Exceptional undergraduate students in UNC Charlottes Nursing program may apply to the Early Entry Program to begin work toward a Masters in Nursing graduate degree before completion of the bachelors degree.
