Program Overview


Program Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Play Therapy prepares students to work with children who are 10 years and younger in a developmentally responsive way in both community and school settings. The program is available for professionals who have completed a masters degree in counseling, social work, or psychology and want additional training in play therapy. In addition, students currently enrolled in the masters or doctoral program in the School of Social Work or in a counseling program may take the coursework required for the graduate certificate.


Program Details

  • The graduate program in Play Therapy is an Approved Provider and Center with the Association for Play Therapy.
  • The play therapy graduate coursework aligns with the Association for Play Therapys (APT) instructional requirements towards the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential.
  • Upon completing this graduate certificate program, students will be specially trained, developmentally competent, highly effective mental health professionals who can deepen their ability to make a meaningful impact on childrens mental health and well-being.

Delivery and Credit Hours

  • The program is delivered On-Campus.
  • The program consists of 12 credit hours.

Admission

  • Admission is available for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
  • Deadlines:
    • Spring: Priority - October 1, Secondary - December 1
    • Fall: Priority - March 1, Secondary - August 1
    • Summer: Summer 1 - May 1, Summer 2 - June 15

Program Outcomes

The Graduate Certificate in Play Therapy will equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work with children in a developmentally appropriate way, using play therapy fundamentals. Upon completion, students will be able to make a meaningful impact on childrens mental health and well-being.
