The University of North Carolina at Charlottes online Bachelor of Arts in sociology program is a degree-completion program for learners who may be seeking to progress in their current field or to prepare for a career change. Our B.A. degree in sociology program is 100% online and designed to be flexible for working professionals.

Program Details

The bachelors degree in sociology program with a concentration in organizations, occupations and work allows students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyze and interpret the social forces that shape the world of work. Students will learn about the history of work, the different types of organizations and the social dynamics that play out in the workplace. They will also learn about the challenges and opportunities facing workers today.

College and Concentration

The program is offered through the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences with a concentration in Organizations, Occupations, and Work.

Program Structure

• The program can be completed in as little as five semesters if enrolled full-time (about 12 months), and seven semesters (about 24 months) if enrolled part-time.
• The total time is determined by how many of the student's existing credits transfer.
• The program is designed for students who have earned an associate degree (A.A. or A.S.) or who have earned at least 60 transferable credit hours and have completed UNC Charlottes general education courses.

Delivery and Credits

• The program is delivered online.
• The program requires 32 Credit Hours.

Admissions

• The program admits students in Spring, Summer & Fall.
• Prospective students who have fewer than 24 transferable credit hours should apply for an on-campus program or discuss admission options with the School of Professional Studies (SPS).
• Prospective students with 24-59 credits should contact SPS to discuss being admitted as an undeclared student.

General Education

• The 2023 General Education requirement requires students to complete 10 courses of lower-division general education relating to the four competencies critical thinking, communication, intercultural, and quantitative/data that are fully integrated into the requirements for each major.

Foreign Language

• Students earning a degree in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences must demonstrate proficiency in the language of their choice through the 1202 level.
