Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology
Program Overview
Introduction to the Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology
The Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology (EEEB) major is designed for students who wish to pursue a career or graduate work in a wide range of fields, including zoology, botany, conservation biology, agricultural ecology, bioinformatics, ecosystem science, ecological sustainability, or natural resource management.
Program Overview
EEEB is designed with highly flexible course requirements to allow students to prepare for a variety of career paths. The program places a greater focus on laboratory and field courses aimed at developing skills needed in graduate programs and highly desired by likely employers of EEEB graduates. These skills include:
- Designing and implementing lab and field experiments
- Collecting and analyzing observational or experimental data
- Communicating results in scientific formats
- Working in collaborative teams
Research Opportunities
In addition to course-based research projects, EEEB majors can elect to participate in the research programs of individual EEEB faculty members, for which they receive course credit. Students can initiate the process by discussing their areas of research with faculty members.
Program Requirements
The EEEB program has reduced Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus requirements compared to the Biology B.S. program, as it is not intended for students who plan to attend medical school. Instead, the program focuses on developing skills needed in graduate programs and highly desired by employers.
Student Involvement
Students involved in the Honors College or Federal Work-Study program are encouraged to explore possible research or employment opportunities with faculty members.
Curriculum
The EEEB program offers a sample schedule, which can be obtained through the College of Arts and Sciences Advising. Students should work closely with faculty advisers to select coursework that best aligns with their educational and career goals.
