Preparatory Courses in English for Health Sciences

The International Studies Center at the University of Pécs offers complex and integrated preparatory programs for degree studies that meet the language development needs of international students and facilitate their integration into the context of higher education in Hungary.

Description of the Program

The preparatory programs are made up of three stages, each comprising 400 lessons:

1. The Milestone Stage: Designed for students who need additional support in meeting the minimum requirements in English. Communicative and cooperative language classes assist students to attain intermediate (B1) level.
2. The Upgrade Stage: Focuses on language development in a manner that resembles more the academic context awaiting students. Students have the opportunity to select courses from a range of compulsory and elective modules modelled upon university seminars, assisting them to attain upper-intermediate (B2) level.
3. The Gateway Stage: Specifically designed for students with outstanding English skills (already reaching or exceeding B2 level). The 400 contact hours merge language instruction (Academic English and ESP) with field-specific subject teaching, thus improving language skills while becoming knowledgeable in their future field of degree studies.

Application Procedure

2. Fill the application form, upload the necessary documents, and submit the application.
3. After submitting the application, receive information on further steps.
4. The evaluation of the application begins after the application fee is received.

Application Requirements

• General Entry Requirements: For general entry and language requirements, please note that there is no language requirement at the preparatory courses of ISC. However, the length of the course depends on the level of English knowledge.
• Documents to Submit:
  • Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copy of school transcripts showing satisfactory completion of senior high school.
  • Europass CV in English
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID
  • Medical certificate, including:
    • Vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
    • HEP A/B/C test
    • HIV test
    • Chest X-ray: Please attach the chests X-ray result (not the film!) in English/Hungarian! (not older than 3 months)

Output Requirements

The output requirements of ISCs preparatory courses, developed by the faculties at the University of Pécs in cooperation with ISC and in accordance with the European Union Framework for Languages, are the B2 level language exam and the sufficient knowledge base in the chosen field of study.
