Introduction to the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability
The Graduate Certificate in Sustainability is designed to address the growing need for individuals and organizations to develop effective and sustainable management solutions. The program considers sustainability across all scales and sectors, including human behavior, conservation efforts, environmental education, and state and federal policies.
Program Overview
The Sustainability Certificate program consists of 12 credit hours and is offered in person only. The program is open to anyone who has earned at least a bachelor's degree within the previous five years, including current University of Michigan graduate students who can pursue the certificate in conjunction with a degree-seeking program.
Program Structure
The Sustainability Graduate Certificate is designed to accommodate diverse skillsets and disciplinary backgrounds, providing a cohesive learning experience. The certificate requires completion of:
- 6 credits of coursework in fundamental knowledge
- 6 credits of coursework in skillset development
- A 3-credit equivalent experiential learning capstone experience
Coursework
The program includes pre-approved courses categorized as either Sustainability Knowledge Fundamentals or Skillset Development. The capstone experience is also a key component of the program.
Admission Criteria
The Sustainability Graduate Certificate is available to prospective students who have successfully completed a bachelor's program and are currently not enrolled in any graduate program at the University of Michigan.
