Program Overview

Introduction to SEP-HEALTHSpark

The Summer Enrichment Program in Health Equity and Leadership Training in Healthcare and Public Health (SEP-HEALTHSpark) is an immersive summer experience designed to attract and educate future leaders committed to eliminating racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic health inequalities.

Program Overview

SEP-HEALTHSpark is an 8-week summer experience that enhances students' understanding of health equity while exposing them to careers in community and public health and healthcare delivery. The program builds on the University of Michigan Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) for Health Management and Policy, created in 1986 by Dr. Richard Lichtenstein to identify and train future leaders of healthcare organizations who strive to eliminate health inequalities.

Program Outcomes

Over 90% of past participants have completed graduate study in public health, medicine, health sciences, and business since the program's inception in 1986. Alumni have gone on to have successful careers in public health and healthcare management, with many holding senior management positions in health systems, hospitals, community health centers, health policy organizations, and numerous other health enterprises.
