Bachelor of Health Science
The Bachelor of Health Science is a rewarding career path in public health, offered by Victoria University. This undergraduate degree focuses on improving the health of groups of people and provides fantastic real-world experience through collaborations with health institutes, universities, and community organizations.
Overview
The program prepares students for a range of health and science careers, with a focus on public health. Students will study core bioscience, research, and public health topics, with a major in Public Health. From the second year of study, students can choose their areas of interest to focus on.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Critically review social, biological, economic, political, and environmental determinants of health and explain how they manifest in local and global contexts.
- Evaluate and justify the use of best-evidence-based methods and technologies to investigate and propose solutions to contemporary public health issues.
- Apply a broad and coherent knowledge base and skills in the health sciences to analyze problems in health, well-being, and disease.
- Conceptually map key ethical, legal, and professional components within the domain of health.

Graduates can find job opportunities in government departments, not-for-profits, international organizations, health and community organizations, pharmaceutical industries, professional associations, and public health research programs.
Course Structure
To successfully attain the Bachelor of Health Science, students must complete 288 credit points, consisting of:
- 96 credit points of First Year Core studies
- 96 credit points of Public Health Major studies
- One of the following options:
- 96 credit points of Indigenous Health Major studies
- 96 credit points of Minor studies (two minor sets in total)
Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the entry criteria, which includes:
- Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) with a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English
- Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent)
- IELTS (or equivalent) with an overall score of 6.0 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking)
- Completion of a Foundation course or equivalent
Fees and Scholarships
The tuition fee for international students is AU$19,100 per semester. Victoria University offers scholarships, including the VU Block Model International Scholarship, which provides up to 30% off tuition fees for the entire first year of study.
