Program Overview


Master in Editing Publishing

The Master in Editing Publishing program is designed to provide students with deepened knowledge and understanding of different skills and learnings connected with editing in its historical, theoretical, technological, conceptual, and executive aspects.


Education Objectives

The program aims to equip students with:


  • Scientific-academic skills to approach writing techniques, prepare texts for reading, and understand the ways of their reception
  • Critical ability for comparative reflection between literary theories or ciberculture and real practices for text editing
  • Specialized skills for professional work in the editing field, including the conception and development of original publishing projects, and the ability to perform editing works accurately and coherently

Degree Pre-requisites

  • Length: 3 semesters
  • Total Credits: 90 credits (60 in course units of the study program + 30 in the non-taught component)
  • Types of Non-taught Component: Dissertation, Project Work, Practical Work Experience with Report
  • Free-Elective Options: 10 credits, obtainable from course units taught at post-graduate level at FCSH/NOVA or other national or foreign higher education institutions through a protocol
  • Level: Corresponds to the level 7 of the NQF and EQF-National Qualifications Framework/European Qualifications Framework

Conditions of Admittance

  • Application and Access Conditions: Reflect the conditions established in the national legislation, including holding a licenciado degree or legal equivalent, a foreign academic degree recognized by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCSH, or an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum vitae recognized by the Scientific Council of NOVA FCSH
  • Selection Criteria: Applicants will be selected and ranked according to the criteria annually defined in the application edict

Evaluation Rules

  • Final Grade: Expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20, as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale
  • Post-Graduate Diploma: The final grade is the average, by credit, of the grades obtained in the course units in which the student obtained the 60 credits from the taught part of the Master's course
  • Master's Degree: The final grade will be the average of the final grade of the taught part of the course, weighted to 40%, and the grade awarded to the dissertation, project work, or practical work experience report, weighted to 60%
