Introduction to Sport Coaching BSc(Hons)

The Sport Coaching BSc(Hons) degree is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to succeed in the sport coaching profession. The course is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and offers a range of specialist pathways, including development, performance, and youth sport and physical education.

Course Structure

The course is divided into three years, with the first year providing a broad introduction to coaching through topics such as physiology, psychology, biomechanics, training principles, sport development, and sociology. In the second year, students can choose to specialize in one of the three pathways: development, performance, or youth sport and physical education. The final year includes core modules, option modules, and a dissertation.

Specialization Pathways

Students can choose to specialize in one of the following areas:

• Sport Coaching with Development BSc(Hons): Focuses on using sport as a tool for development, increasing participation, promoting a healthier lifestyle, and tackling social issues.
• Sport Coaching with Performance BSc(Hons): Concentrates on the knowledge and skills needed to analyze and improve the performance of athletes.
• Sport Coaching with Youth Sport and Physical Education BSc(Hons): Designed for those who wish to work with children and young people in a coaching context.

Facilities and Resources

The University of Brighton offers extensive sport facilities at Falmer, including dance and spin studios, outdoor grass football pitches, a full-size floodlit synthetic turf pitch, and a sports hall with netball, volleyball, basketball, and badminton courts.
