Certificate for Graduates of Non-EU/EEA Nursing Programmes
The Certificate programme addresses the gaps between the undergraduate training of nurses qualified in non-EU/EEA countries and the requirements for nurse training stipulated by EU regulations. Through a combination of study-units, the programme is adjusted to meet the specific needs of applicants after an evaluation of their qualifications.
Programme Overview
- The programme spans across multiple facets of nursing care delivery, encompassing both health and social care issues, and ranges across primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare settings.
- The core components of the programme address the overarching requirements of the EU directive, enabling students to consolidate their clinical competencies, understand different healthcare systems, and work as a nurse in healthcare systems within an EU-member state.
- Students will also pursue a set of theoretical study-units selected as required from a wide array of study-units that address a range of clinical specialties.
MQF Level and Duration
- The programme is at MQF Level 5.
- The duration of the programme is 1 semester, with 30 ECTS credits.
- The mode of study is full-time, but the programme is also offered on a part-time basis.
Admission Requirements
- General Entry Requirements: Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications.
- Special Course Requirements:
- A qualification in Nursing deemed suitable by the Board of Studies and recognized at least at Level 5 on the Malta and European Qualifications Frameworks.
- A professional qualification deemed by Senate to be comparable to the qualification indicated above.
- A qualification in Nursing recognized at Level 4 on the Malta and European Qualifications Frameworks, together with a qualification in an area related to Nursing recognized at Level 5 on the Malta and European Qualifications Frameworks.
- Applicants must provide evidence that they are in possession of the licence to practice as a nurse awarded by the relevant regulatory council of the country from where the qualification was awarded.

- NUR1505: Clinical Nursing Skills (5 ECTS)
- NUR3242: Advancing Clinical Skills (5 ECTS)
- NUR3901: Comparative Health Care Study (2 ECTS)
- NUR4149: Achieving Nursing Competence in EU Practice Settings (10 ECTS)
- Elective study-units (8 ECTS): Students are required to choose from a list of elective units, including:

- NUR1118: Personal and Professional Development 1 (4 ECTS)
- NUR1218: Evidence in Nursing Practice (2 ECTS)

Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate the ability to work in any health and social care setting in a culturally competent manner.
- Demonstrate adequate knowledge about the main health concerns in populations across the European region and prevalent trends of managing common health conditions and diseases.
- Think and evaluate critically in the course of assimilating and applying knowledge and skills to any one specific care setting or type of patient/client.
- Deliver care as a safe independent practitioner in all areas of care delivery identified by the EU directive.

- Total Tuition Fees for non-EU applicants: Eur 5,400.
Career Opportunities
- Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates can apply for registration as a nurse with the Maltese Council of Nurses and Midwives, subject to other non-academic requirements determined by the Council.
- Graduates can also pursue CPD and further education opportunities available for registered nurses.
