Diploma in Baroque Architecture
The Diploma in Baroque Architecture is a two-year programme of study that provides students with the theoretical and practical knowledge of Baroque Architecture, ranging from its origins to its modern conservation. This 17th Century movement and architectural style broadens students' horizons about the different modes of architecture.
Programme Overview
The Diploma provides students with an in-depth and vast understanding of different study units that delve into the unique characteristics of Baroque Architecture. Units range from Baroque Architecture, Baroque City, and Fortifications in Baroque Age, to the Composition and Properties of Building Materials, Documentation of Baroque Buildings, and an Introduction to Museography, among others.
Programme Structure
The programme is divided into two years, with compulsory units in each semester.

- BST1001: An Introduction to Baroque Europe (2 ECTS)
- BST1002: Baroque Architecture (4 ECTS)
- BST1004: Baroque Painting (2 ECTS)
- BST1006: Fortifications in Baroque Age (2 ECTS)
- Semester 2:
- BST1003: Baroque Sculpture (2 ECTS)
- BST1005: The Baroque City (2 ECTS)
- BST1007: The Baroque Garden (2 ECTS)
- BST1022: Baroque Music and Theatre (4 ECTS)

- BST1015: Field Experience (12 ECTS)
- BST1016: Long Essay/Project (10 ECTS)

- BST1010: Composition and Properties of Building Materials (2 ECTS)

- BST1020: An Introduction to Museology (4 ECTS)
- Semester 2:
- BST1014: The Conservation of the Baroque Heritage (6 ECTS)

Total Requirements
The total requirement for the award of the Diploma in Baroque Architecture is 60 ECTS credits.
Programme Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand how Baroque Architecture was intertwined with the Counter-reformation and its unique architectural qualities.
- Use their analytical and observant eye to explain the architectural style of Baroque structures.
- Appreciate and understand contemporary architecture better through a historical and Baroque perspective.
- Carry out independent research and discuss the subject in an interdisciplinary atmosphere.
- Apply their knowledge of documentation, composition and properties, conservation, and museography to the practical field of architecture.
Tuition Fees
For non-EU applicants, the total tuition fees are Eur 8,500, divided into Eur 4,250 for Year 1 and Eur 4,250 for Year 2.
Career Opportunities
The Diploma provides students with the opportunity to work in any architectural field related to the Baroque. Graduates will be able to apply for job vacancies and job promotion opportunities within the Public Sector, NGOs, and other private and public entities promoting the preservation of the Maltese cultural heritage. It is also a stepping stone that provides the possibility of further studies and specialization. Relevant postgraduate courses are available locally with the University of Malta, and the opportunity to study in foreign institutions abroad is also available.
