Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Primary Education
The BA (Honours) in Primary Education is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to become effective and inspiring primary school educators. Through a combination of theoretical learning, hands-on experience, and reflective practice, students will develop an understanding of child development, curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and classroom management.
Programme Overview
- The programme is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019, and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Primary Education B.A. (Hons) - under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.
- The programme consists of 180 ECTS credits, spread over three years of full-time study.
- Students must complete a series of compulsory units, including coursework, practicum, and a dissertation.
Year 1

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the foundational learning areas and subjects taught during the compulsory primary school age from Year 1 to Year 6.
- Demonstrate that they can use appropriate search techniques to identify literature relevant to the profession.
- Plan and provide a well-organised classroom environment, designed to stimulate the pupils.
- Develop the right attitude to value, encourage and facilitate children's creative spirit.
- Select strategies for teaching and learning appropriate to the subject, topic and pupils' individual requirements.
- Work cooperatively in the classroom with other professionals and adults.
Admission Criteria
- General Entry Requirements: Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications.
- Special Course Requirements: A pass at Advanced Matriculation Level at Grade C or better in any one subject.
- Notes and any other requirements: Applicants considered in terms of paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Faculty Admissions Committee that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit.
Tuition Fees
- Fee per academic year for non-EU applicants: Eur 8,500.
Career Opportunities
As a graduate in BA (Honours) in Primary Education, students will be able to pursue a fulfilling career as a primary school teacher in both public and private educational institutions. Additionally, they may also choose from roles such as a curriculum developer, education consultant, instructional coordinator, or educational researcher. If they would like to advance their studies, they may choose to enrol in a postgraduate programme, either locally or with a foreign institution.
