Global Environmental Studies in Costa Rica
The Global Environmental Studies in Costa Rica program is a collaborative effort between OsloMet and Kulturstudier. This interdisciplinary course combines elements of political ecology, political economy, and development studies to provide a comprehensive introduction to environmental studies with a focus on Latin America and Costa Rica.

Aims and Contents
The program aims to provide a basis for discussions, critical analysis, and reflection on the causes and dynamics of environmental problems and the management of natural resources. It offers a balanced understanding of current theories and practices within global environmental management.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the program, students should acquire knowledge of:
- The complex nature of contemporary environmental issues
- Institutions, organizations, and stakeholders in international environmental management
- Central ideas, perspectives, and debates in environmental management and planning
- Challenges facing modern society in terms of planning for a healthy environment and managing it for sustainable development
- Economic, legal, and social factors that impact decisions and actions at the interface between human activity and the environment
- The interrelationships between economic and social development and environmental impacts
- Skills and techniques to develop solutions to complex, international environment-related problems
