Japanology (Bachelor)
The bachelors programme in Japanology provides students with an understanding of modern Japan from a cultural studies and social sciences perspective, based on Japanese language and scripts, as well as relevant historical foundations. Graduates acquire language proficiency in written and spoken Japanese, intercultural competences related to Japan, the ability to work with Japanese source materials, and basic knowledge of Japan's history, society, culture, politics, and economy.

Study Programme
The bachelors programme in Japanology consists of an Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP) and compulsory modules, including:
- Japanese in theory and practice
- Regional and cultural studies
- Basic knowledge of Japanese culture and society
- Politics and economy
- Intercultural learning and academic research and writing
- An internship Students must write two bachelors theses to successfully complete the programme. A study visit to Japan for one or two semesters is a valuable addition to the degree programme and is usually supported by the Department as far as possible.
