Program Overview
Master Programme in Political Science
The Master Programme in Political Science is designed for students who have completed a bachelor's or diploma programme in the same discipline. The programme aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in political science, preparing them for careers in research, academia, or professional fields.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Master Programme in Political Science, students must have completed a bachelor's or diploma programme in a relevant field. The admission requirements are as follows:
- Completion of a degree programme at the University of Vienna
- Completion of a degree programme at another university or institution of higher education in Austria
- Completion of a degree programme from an EU/EEA country, Switzerland, or the UK
- Completion of a degree programme from a non-EU/EEA country (subject to individual examination)

Supplementary Examinations
Students who have completed a degree programme in a field other than political science may be required to take supplementary examinations to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the field. The supplementary examinations are as follows:
- VO BAK 1.2 STEOP Fachspezifische Einf³hrung (10 ECTS)
- VO BAK 3 Themenbereich Qualitative Methoden (5 ECTS)
- VO BAK 3 Themenbereich Quantitative Methoden (5 ECTS)
- 2 VO aus BAK 4 bis BAK 7 "Pflichtmodulgruppe Kernfõcher" (10 ECTS)
Extension Curricula
The University of Vienna offers extension curricula that can be completed during the bachelor's programme to prepare students for the Master Programme in Political Science. The extension curricula are as follows:

Individual Examination
Students who have completed a degree programme from a non-EU/EEA country will be subject to an individual examination to determine their eligibility for admission to the Master Programme in Political Science.
