Program Overview

Latin Course at the University of Vienna

The Latin Course is designed to prepare students for the Latin Supplementary Exam at the University of Vienna. The course is offered by the Language Center of the University of Vienna and is tailored to meet the needs of students who require the Latinum for their studies.

Course Description

The Latin Course covers the entire Latin grammar, basic vocabulary, and a specific translation method. The course is interactive, with a focus on the correct translation method and the correct formulation of a German translation. Students will work with a script specially developed for the Language Center, which includes original texts and quotations from the last 40 years of Latin exams.

Course Dates and Fees

The course is offered in two formats:

  • A 10-week course from March to May or October to December, with 60 units per course, held 2 times a week.
  • A 4-week course in February or September, with 60 units per course, held 5 times a week. The tuition fee for the course is EUR 520 per course, including the learning materials.

Advantages of the Course

The Latin Course at the Language Center has several advantages, including:

  • Course dates coordinated with the Latin Supplementary Exam at the University of Vienna.
  • Complete preparation from scratch in a short time.

The script is included in the course price and will be handed out on the first day of the course. Additionally, students will need a Latin-German dictionary, which can be purchased separately.

ECTS Points

The Latin Course at the Language Center does not conclude with an examination, and no ECTS points are awarded.
