Program Overview


Master Geography Program

The Master Geography program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of geographical concepts and methods. The program is structured to allow students to specialize in a particular area of interest, while also gaining a broad understanding of the field.


Program Structure

The program consists of several modules, including:


  • Mastering the Basics
  • Specialization
  • Mobility Module
  • Master's Thesis

Mastering the Basics Module

This module provides students with a foundation in geographical concepts and methods. It is a prerequisite for the Specialization module.


Specialization Module

In this module, students can choose from several specializations, including:


  • Specialization A
  • Specialization B
  • Specialization C
  • Specialization D Students must select their specialization via u:space before registering for the Basics module.

Mobility Module

The Mobility Module allows students to sharpen their competencies in the area of Global Change and Sustainability. Students can attend courses at the university or other institutions, participate in research projects, do internships, or study abroad.


Master's Thesis

The Master's thesis is an independent research project that demonstrates a student's ability to apply geographical concepts and methods to a real-world problem. The thesis is typically completed within six months, but extensions are possible.


Registration and Examination

Students must register for courses and exams via the university's registration system. Registration periods are typically a few weeks before the start of the semester.


Supplementary Exams

Supplementary exams are offered for students who need to complete additional coursework. These exams are usually offered in German, but students can also take them in English.


Graduation

Graduation is contingent upon completion of all required coursework and the Master's thesis. The final examination (Defensio) is the last step in the program.
