Changes in the Bachelor's Program for Digital Basic Education and Computer Science

The Bachelor's program for Digital Basic Education and Computer Science will undergo several changes, effective October 1, 2025.

Relaxation of Prerequisite Chains

In the past, the program faced issues with prerequisite chains, where the completion of a course in one semester was a mandatory prerequisite for a course in the following semester. This problem was particularly pronounced in the teaching degree program, which consists of three non-synchronized sub-curricula. To address this issue, the prerequisites have been relaxed by converting most of the problematic prerequisites into "recommended participation prerequisites." While it is still ideal to fulfill these prerequisites, students will not be prevented from registering for the course if they have not completed the prerequisite course.

New Prerequisite

A new prerequisite has been introduced: the positive completion of the "VU Informatik und Gesellschaft" is a mandatory prerequisite for the "PS Angewandte Ethik und Technikbewertung" starting from October 1, 2025.

Changes in Technical Foundations and Theoretical Computer Science

The changes to the Bachelor's program also apply to the teaching degree program in Digital Basic Education and Computer Science. As of October 1, 2025, the 6 ECTS "VO Technische Grundlagen der Informatik" will be replaced by 4 ECTS "VO TGI" and 2 ECTS "UE TGI." The same change applies to the "VO Theoretische Informatik." Both the lecture and the exercise must be completed positively.

These changes are retroactive, meaning that students who have already completed one of the modules will not be affected. Students who have already completed the preparatory course for one of the lectures can also have it counted towards the new exercise. The attempts for the old VO exam with 6 ECTS and the new exam with 4 ECTS will be combined. The counting of attempts will start again with the new exam. The attempts for the old PUE and the new UE will not be combined.
