Program Overview
Bachelor Program in Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft
The Bachelor program in Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft is a 6-semester undergraduate program with a total of 180 ECTS. This program provides students with a scientific foundation and qualification for professional activities in the field of social communication. The program aims to impart skills in areas such as multimedia journalism, public relations, communication ethics, media economics, market research, and more.
Program Structure
The program consists of several modules, including:
- STEOP A and B: The study entry and orientation phase, which is a prerequisite for all other courses, except for GESKO A. The STEOP can be completed within one semester and is offered in both semesters.
- METH: A module that provides insights into qualitative and quantitative research methods and statistics.
- THEO: A module that introduces fundamental communication theories and focuses on the interdisciplinarity of publizistik.
- SPEZI: A module that allows students to choose 3 lectures from different subject areas, such as media pedagogy, communication ethics, media economics, and more.
- FOPRAX: A module that can be attended after completing the METH module. This module aims to complete a full research cycle within 2 semesters.
- GESKO: A module that focuses on practical fields, where students learn profession-specific skills and competencies applied in journalism, public relations, advertising, and market research.
- Erweiterungscurricula: Additional curricula that offer the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills outside the field of publizistik.
- BACH: A module that requires students to write a bachelor's thesis, with the prerequisite of completing the FOPRAX module.
Admission and Enrollment
The admission process involves an entrance test, which is only offered in the winter semester. After completing the STEOP, students can enroll in other courses. The enrollment process is based on a point system, where students have 1000 points to invest in courses and seminars. The number of points required for each course varies, and students can check the number of available spots and enrolled students during the enrollment phase.
Additional Information
If a student is not accepted into their desired course, they can:
- Check the waiting list and try to get into the course
- Keep their invested points for the next semester, if they do not deregister from the course
- Attend the course and try to get in, as some professors may accept students from the waiting list
