Overview

The course "Introduction to the Study of Law and its Methods" provides an initial overview of legal work and the essential questions of the study. It covers six semester hours per week. The corresponding lecture is held every semester. Exam dates are at the beginning, middle, and end of the semester.

Content and Structure

The lecture is divided into three parts:

  • Introduction to Public Law (with special consideration of European law) - taught by Prof. Bettina Perthold (Institute for State and Administrative Law)
  • Introduction to Private Law - alternately taught by Prof. Christiane Wendehorst and Prof. Brigitta ZŲchling-Jud (Institute for Civil Law)
  • Introduction to Legal Philosophy - taught by Prof. Alexander Somek (Institute for Legal Philosophy) in the 2024/25 academic year

Exam Preparation

For each part, a script from the Manz publishing house serves as the primary learning material, which can be purchased at the Facultas Shop of the Juridicum. Additional materials are offered for download on the e-learning platform "moodle". In the exercises, additional learning materials (summaries, questions, cases, etc.) are usually distributed.
