Program Overview


Master of Education Program

The Master of Education program at the University of Vienna is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in teaching and learning. The program is built on four pillars: subject-specific education, subject didactics, general educational sciences, and school practice.


Admission Requirements

Admission to the Master of Education program requires the completion of a relevant bachelor's degree program or an equivalent qualification from a recognized post-secondary education institution. The bachelor's degree must be in a field relevant to the two teaching subjects the student wishes to pursue.


Program Structure

The Master of Education program consists of 120 ECTS credits, which are distributed across the four pillars:


  • Subject-specific education
  • Subject didactics
  • General educational sciences
  • School practice

The program includes 30 ECTS credits of school practice, which is divided between the two teaching subjects. Students must complete 18 ECTS credits of school practice in each subject.


Modules

The program consists of several modules, including:


  • ABG MA PM1: Teaching and Learning
    • VO: Teaching and Learning (3 ECTS, 2 hours)
    • VO: Design and Reflection Forms of Education, Teaching, and Learning (2 ECTS, 1 hour)
  • ABG MA PM2: Social and Personal Competencies and Reflection of Practice
    • KU: Social and Personal Competencies (2 ECTS, 1 hour)
    • KU: Reflection and Evaluation of One's Own Practice (4 ECTS, 1 hour)
  • ABG MA PM3: Professional Responsibility, Evaluation, and Practitioner Research
    • SE: Research Methods - Professional Responsibility, Evaluation, and Practitioner Research (5 ECTS, 2 hours)
  • ABG MA PM4: Designing Inclusive Educational Processes
    • SE: Designing Inclusive Educational Processes (4 ECTS, 2 hours)

Abschlussphase

The final phase of the program does not currently include the option to write a master's thesis in the area of general educational sciences. However, students may include an educational science component in their thesis, which will be assigned to one of the two teaching subjects.
