Admission to the bachelor's degree in sports and exercise science

All information about the admission process with admission test to prove sporting suitability for people with a school-leaving certificate from Austria or Germany.


Deadlines and overview

  • Summer semester 2026:
    • Application deadline: November 13, 2025 to January 7, 2026
    • Cost contribution: 50 euros
    • Admission deadline: after the results are announced until March 31, 2026
    • Semester start: March 1st
  • Winter semester 2026/27:
    • Application deadline: March 2 to May 4, 2026
    • Cost contribution: 50 euros
    • Admission deadline: after the results are announced until October 31, 2026
    • Semester starts: October 1st

Required documents

  • To register in u:space:
    • Passport or ID card (front and back!) as a JPEG or PNG file
  • For the application for admission:
    • All pages of the school leaving certificate in the original collected as a PDF file
    • Evidence of any additional and admission tests summarized in one PDF file

Your steps in the admission process

Step 1: Prepare the required documents

  1. Scan all required documents and save them in the appropriate format.
  2. Merge multiple pages of the same document into one PDF file using an online tool of your choice.

Step 2: Apply for admission and register

  1. Create your u:account in u:space within the application deadline.
  2. Log in to u:space, complete the registration and select the desired course of study.
  3. Upload the required documents.

Step 3: The admission test to prove your sporting suitability

You can find all dates and information about this exam at the StudiesServiceCenter (SSC) Sports Science.


Step 4: Admission to the course

After the results have been announced, admission to the course is possible if you were successful in the admission test and meet the requirements for admission to a bachelor's degree program at the University of Vienna.


Step 5: Order the u:card and semester planning

As soon as the student/ÖH contribution has been received, you can order your student ID card, the u:card.


FAQ

  • I lost one of my documents. Is one copy enough?
    • No, since your documents are only uploaded digitally when you submit your application, your documents must be checked for authenticity by the study admissions office.
  • How does the admission test to prove your sporting suitability work and when does it take place?
    • The admission test to prove your sporting aptitude takes place twice per academic year (before the respective winter or summer semester).
  • How long is the admission test valid?
    • After successfully passing the admission test, it is valid for four semesters.
  • Is there a numerus clausus/minimum grade point average?
    • There is no numerus clausus in Austria. Your grade point average is not relevant for admission.
  • What can I do if I have lost the access data to my u:account?
    • If you have forgotten or lost the login details for your u:account, contact the ZID helpdesk.
  • I have an International Baccalaureate (IB). What do I have to consider?
    • Admission to a regular course of study at the University of Vienna is only possible if you meet the following requirements through the IB Diploma:
      • at least 24 points
      • at least six examination subjects, including a foreign language and mathematics
      • at least three of the examination subjects must have been completed at “Higher Level”.
  • I already have a degree. Can I be admitted with this instead of my secondary school leaving certificate?
    • Yes, if your degree comes from at least three years of study (full-time or at least 180 ECTS) at a recognized post-secondary educational institution.
  • I transferred to the University of Vienna from another university. How does the recognition of my previous exams work?
    • The study program management (SPL) is responsible for the recognition of examination achievements.
