Programme Aims & Learning Outcomes
The program focuses on how firms optimize resources in a logistics network to deliver value to end customers. With Hong Kong being a logistics and trading center of global importance, supply chain management is particularly relevant to many businesses and industries. The integration of management knowledge and analytical skills is essential for supply chain managers to make effective decisions.
Programme Characteristics
The curriculum aims to develop students skills and knowledge in business and supply chain analytics, information technology and innovation, operations and cross-functional management, international business, and transport logistics. The program emphasizes active student participation and industry collaboration, combining core subjects in supply chain management and analytics with a wide range of elective subjects.
Curriculum and Learning Methods
- The program includes core subjects such as supply chain analytics, logistics technologies, and distribution management.
- Elective subjects are offered in three areas: technologies and analytics, supply chain management, and international shipping and aviation logistics.
- Interactive and student-centered learning methods are used, including case studies, projects, presentations, and simulation exercises.
- Visits to companies and guest lectures from practitioners are arranged to provide practical insights.
Work-Integrated Education (WIE)
- Every student must complete 100 hours (3 training credits) of WIE to graduate.
- The Department offers opportunities for students to work in firms during summer vacation or as part-timers, which can count towards the WIE requirement.
Professional Recognition
- Graduates are granted full exemption from the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) (Logistics Stream) of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK).
- Graduates may satisfy the partial educational requirements for membership of The International Institute of Management (IIM) and are granted partial exemption from the qualifying examinations of The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
- Graduates are also qualified to register as Associate Members of The Institute of Purchasing & Supply of Hong Kong (IPSHK).
Extracurricular Activities and Support
- Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as leadership training camps, peer tutoring, mentorship, and exchange programs with institutions overseas or in the Chinese mainland.
- Each student may be assigned a mentor, an experienced executive or manager in the business world, who provides advice, support, and career planning guidance.
