The Bachelor of Science (Honours) Scheme in Applied Mathematics and Finance Analytics is a 4-year full-time program that aims to nurture future finance analytics professionals and applied mathematicians. The scheme integrates key finance analytics, quantitative finance, and FinTech elements, preparing students for careers in digital finance or further studies in related fields.

Aims and Characteristics

The scheme is composed of three credit-based 4-year undergraduate program majors:


  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Mathematics (APP Math): Equips students with knowledge in financial mathematics, statistical analysis, computational methods, mathematical modelling, optimization, operations research, and differential equations.
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Investment Science and Finance Analytics (ISFA): Focuses on strategic data use and mathematical modelling for financial analysis and investment decisions, cultivating professionals with strong quantitative analysis, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Quantitative Finance and FinTech (QF & FinTech): Focuses on the strategic use of IT to integrate FinTech elements like blockchain, information security, algorithmic trading, robo-advising, deep hedging, and machine learning applications in finance.

Admission

Entrance Requirements

  • Local JUPAS Applicants: Must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, including:
    • Level 3 for English Language and Chinese Language
    • Level 2 for Mathematics
    • Level 3 for two elective subjects (including M1/M2)
    • Attained (A) for Citizenship and Social Development
  • Local Non-JUPAS Applicants: The University considers other qualifications (such as GCE A-Level / International A-Level / IB qualifications) as being equivalent to the specified entrance requirements on their individual merits.
  • Non-local / International Applicants: The University considers international qualifications (such as GCE A-level / International A-Level / IB qualifications) and other non-local national / regional qualifications as being equivalent to the specified entrance requirements on their individual merits.

Interview Arrangement

  • For HKDSE Applicants: Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview prior to the announcement of HKDSE results.
  • For Other Applicants: Selected first-choice applicants will be invited to have on-site / online interviews.

Curriculum

  • Study Pattern: All students admitted to the scheme will take a common set of subjects in their first year and select one of the majors under the scheme in their second year.

Graduates with the major in BSc (Hons) in Investment Science and Finance Analytics are expected to receive partial exemption from the professional assessment of:
