The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Building Engineering and Management is a 4-year full-time programme offered by the Faculty of Construction and Environment at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Programme Characteristics
The programme requires students to take 120 credits and 2 training credits during the 4-year period. The subjects include:

Site visits and guest lectures are arranged throughout the course of study. Practical training/internship (Work-Integrated Education, WIE) is a compulsory element of the curriculum. Students usually complete an internship during the summer period.

- Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM)

Curriculum
The programme covers the following subject components:
- Core/Major Subjects: Construction Technology, Structural Mechanics, Building Services, Temporary Works Design, Project Management & Procurement, Maintenance Technology & Management, Measurement, Documentation & Estimating, and Building Information Modelling (BIM) Applications and Development
- General University Requirement Subjects: Students are required to take 27 credits of General University Requirement (GUR) subjects
- Free Electives: Students are required to take 6 credits of Free Electives
- Capstone Project: Students are required to complete a 6-credit Capstone Project
- Work-Integrated Education: The Department’s WIE element has a minimum duration of 4 weeks in full-time placement (equivalent to 22 full days) or 176 hours in part-time placement
Secondary Major Details
Students in the BSc (Hons) BEM programme have the option to pursue a Secondary Major in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA). The total credits required for graduation from the BSc(Hons) in BEM programme with the Secondary Major in AIDA are 146.

The credit required for graduation is 120 (plus 2 training credits).

Student Message
A student, LUI Wing Chi, Michele, shared her experience of studying in the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) at PolyU, which deepened her learning exposure and prepared her to pursue and advance her career in the industry. She spent a summer exchange semester at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and participated in significant projects, such as Xiqu Centre and modular integrated construction projects. She was honoured by the Construction Industry Council as the MiC Champion 2022 for her project expertise.
