Program Overview


Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Scheme in Fashion

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Scheme in Fashion is a 2-year full-time program with a normal duration of 2 years and a program intake of 100 senior year places. The program is government-funded, and the credits required for graduation range from 60-63, plus 9 LCR credits.


Entrance Requirements

  • An Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in Fashion, Business, Design, and Science, or equivalent.

Selection Criteria

Applicants may be invited to attend a written test and/or an interview to ascertain their suitability for the program.


Additional Document Required

  • Transcript/Certificate: Applicants are required to submit a copy of their Associate Degree/Higher Diploma transcripts/certificates during their online application.
  • Supplementary Form: Not required, but applicants will be invited via email to complete an online form to declare their intended choices of specialism.

Interview Arrangement

  • Date of Interview: Between March and July (for both design and non-design specialisms)
  • Mode: Design specialisms - Interview at PolyU or via MS Teams; Non-design specialisms - With a written test or may be invited to an interview at PolyU or via MS Teams, if necessary
  • Aims: To assess the suitability of non-JUPAS candidates for the program
  • Medium: English
  • Duration: Design specialisms: 15 - 30 minutes' interview; non-design specialisms: written test or 15 - 30 minutes' interview

Aims and Characteristics

The overall aim of the program is to train competent professionals for the fashion business, equipping them to work in textiles, apparel, retailing, design, and related organizations. Graduates play an active role in the development of the global fashion and textiles industry in local and overseas markets.


Characteristics

Based on their desired careers and academic performance, students can choose one of the following five specialisms under the BA Scheme:

Specialisms

Fashion Design

This specialism aims to nurture students' creativity and design ability, and to develop their awareness of current and emerging technologies in the fashion and manufacturing environment and to enhance their understanding of relevant marketing and business practices.


Knitwear Design

This specialism, similar to that of Fashion Design specialism, aims to nurture students' creativity and design ability. In addition to the general education, students also attain the essential knowledge and skills of a knitwear designer.


Contour Fashion and Activewear

This specialism aims to provide students with the necessary academic and practical knowledge of contour fashion and activewear, including the integration of design and technology aspects.


Fashion Business

This specialism equips students for global fashion business. Students will learn the fundamental management and business principles, contemporary environmental and social practices, and operational knowledge of global fashion marketing and digital channels.


Fashion Innovation and Technology

This specialism nurtures graduates who have sound knowledge of fashion products and production processes; who are able to apply their knowledge within a technical, economic, managerial, and commercial context; who are flexible and can adapt and respond to change; and who have the potential to become industrial leaders in product development, process innovation, and production management in textiles and apparel in local and global markets.


The Generic Award - BA (Hons) in Fashion

Students wishing not to select any specialism can opt for the generic award - BA (Hons) in Fashion. The curriculum of BA (Hons) in Fashion provides a flexible choice of subjects that will increase students' adaptability to the changing needs of the fashion industry.

Work-Integrated Education

As a graduation requirement, every student must complete a minimum of 3 weeks or 120 hours of Work-Integrated Education in an organizational context relevant to their future profession in the garment and textiles industry. This mandatory training must be completed before graduation.


General University Requirement (GUR) Subjects

Senior Year admitted students are required to complete 9-18 credits to fulfill the GUR requirement as tabulated below:


  • Language and Communication Requirements (LCR): 0-9 credits
    • English (6 credits) & Chinese (3 credits)
  • Cluster-Area Requirements (CAR): 6 credits
    • 3 credits from CAR (M) Chinese History and Culture
    • 3 credits from one specially-designed CAR A- English Language subject (with embedded English Reading and Writing Requirements)
  • Service-Learning (SL): 3 credits
