Program Overview


Introduction to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Linguistics and Translation (Senior Year Admission)

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Linguistics and Translation (Senior Year Admission) is a program that requires the accumulation of a minimum of 60 academic credits plus 3 training credits. To qualify for the award, BALT top-up students must complete 9 GUR credits, 30 compulsory subject credits, plus another 21 elective credits and 3 training credits by taking CBS2400 Work Integrated Education (WIE).


Program Structure

General University Requirements (GUR)

The GUR components consist of:


  • Cluster-Area Requirements (CAR) [6 credits]
    • CAR (A) English Language with English Reading and Writing Requirements
    • CAR (M) Chinese History and Culture
    • Students are required to fulfil the English and Chinese Reading & Writing Requirements
  • Service Learning [3 credits]
    • Students can register any service learning subjects offered by LST or other departments of the University.
  • 4 Essential Components of General Education E-Modules [Non-credit-bearing]
    1. Academic Integrity
    2. Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics
    3. Innovation and Entrepreneurship
    4. National Education
  • Language and Communication Requirements (LCR) [3-9 credits]
    • Students not meeting the equivalent standard of the Undergraduate Degree LCR will be required to take the default LCR replacement subjects for BALT students, including:
      • ENGL2000 English for Effective Communication
      • ENGL2001 English for Professional Communication
      • CBS2901 Chinese for Language Professionals
