Program Overview
Graduate School of the Arts and Humanities (GSAH)
The Graduate School of the Arts and Humanities (GSAH) offers a doctoral program in Global Studies, which provides an opportunity to work on a doctoral project focusing on global phenomena within a structured program oriented towards the humanities.
Programme Doctoral Global Studies
The Global Studies doctoral program allows students to work on a doctoral project related to global phenomena within a structured program oriented towards the humanities. The interdisciplinary field of Global Studies examines global processes that shape contemporary life worldwide. Globalization studies focus on exchanges, interdependencies, and dissociations between different cultural, political, linguistic, and religious groups and communities.
Approach and Objectives
An interdisciplinary approach is essential for understanding the context and effects of current and past global processes. The program invites doctoral students from diverse disciplines and academic backgrounds to apply for membership. The program offers an interdisciplinary platform for exchange and dialogue with other students, doctoral students, and teachers, as well as international experts and researchers. Members will find support in the doctoral program to build an academic network tailored to their needs, enabling them to discuss central questions related to their doctoral project concerning globalization research concepts and theory.
Network and Community
The opportunities to develop this network are not limited to the doctoral program, as all members are also part of the Graduate School of the Arts and Humanities (GSAH) at the Walter Benjamin Kolleg of the University of Bern. Regular events organized by the GSAH provide an opportunity to exchange information with doctoral students from the other three doctoral programs of the GSAH (Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies, Studies of Language and Society, and Studies in the Arts).
Target Audience
The Global Studies doctoral program is designed for doctoral students:
- Working on questions of cultural globalization
