Introduction to the Program

The Diploma of Advanced Studies in Translational Medicine (DAS TM) is a part-time program designed to train professionals in scientific and medical knowledge, as well as entrepreneurship skills. This program aims to enable participants to successfully coordinate the development and commercialization of biomedical products.

• The program is offered by the School for Translational Medicine and Biomedical Entrepreneurship (sitem-insel School) at the University of Bern.
• It starts in 2025 and lasts for 4 semesters.
• The program scope corresponds to 30 ECTS credits.
• Flexible entry is possible, and single module visits are allowed.

Admission Requirements

• Participants should have a Master's degree or higher in life science, medicine, engineering science, or equivalent.
• Professional experience is not mandatory, but applicants without prior academic degrees or professional experience may need to fulfill additional conditions defined by the study commission.

Program Structure

Modules

The DAS in Translational Medicine consists of five compulsory modules with a technical-scientific focus on translational medicine, including:

• Module 1: Research & Development
• Module 2: GMP and Quality Management
• Module 3: Intellectual Property
• Module 4: Regulatory Affairs
• Module 5: Clinical Trial Design and Performance Participants also choose elective courses on various topics, which can be in-person courses or modules from other continuing education programs in Artificial Intelligence and/or Regulation in Translational Medicine.

• The program is organized by the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine (sitem-insel), located on the Insel Campus Bern.
• The institute benefits from its proximity to Switzerland's largest university hospital (Inselspital) and the University of Bern.
• The Medical Faculty of the University of Bern offers education programs in translational medicine, biomedical entrepreneurship, regulatory affairs, and artificial intelligence.

• Experts from academia, clinics, industry, and regulatory authorities carry the teaching responsibility and support participants in their projects.

Tuition Fees and Installments

• The tuition fee for the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) is CHF 23,100.
• The full study fee can be paid in full at once or in installments per semester.
• Costs for travel, accommodation, and catering are not included, and insurance is the sole responsibility of participants.

Application and Deadlines

• Applicants must submit their complete application, including all required attachments, via the registration form.
• The application deadlines are May 31 for scholarships, July 15 for the fall term, and December 15 for the spring term.
• Standalone modules can be admitted anytime, provided places are still available.

Expected Outcomes

• Participants can expect to gain an internationally recognized degree from a prestigious Swiss university.
• The program aims to increase career prospects, provide expert insights from academia and industry, and enable participants to successfully coordinate the development and commercialization of their healthcare innovations.
• Upon successful participation, the University of Bern awards the title Diploma of Advanced Studies in Translational Medicine with a diploma supplement disclosing the contents and achievements of the program.
