Introduction to the Master of Advanced Studies in Health Administration MiG
The Master of Advanced Studies in Health Administration MiG (MHA Unibe) is a comprehensive and in-depth further education program for higher-level personnel in the healthcare sector. The program aims to enable participants to think and act in an interdisciplinary and cross-functional manner, preparing them for health policy co-design tasks. Graduates should be able to lead healthcare organizations in both the clinical and public health sectors, ensuring they remain efficient and functional even in rapidly changing circumstances.
Main Objectives
- Recognize and independently pursue connections and developments in the healthcare sector.
- Solve management problems from their own practice using scientific findings and methods, and develop holistic, normatively justified strategies.
- Develop skills and attitudes for motivating personnel, dealing with cadres from other organizations, and realistically assessing their own person and career opportunities.
Program Overview
The MHA Unibe program is conducted every two and a half years and is designed to be completed alongside a professional career. The 15th program cycle will run from February 2027 to June 2029. The program consists of a comprehensive and in-depth further education for higher-level personnel in the healthcare sector, enabling them to think and act in an interdisciplinary and cross-functional manner. This is crucial for success in the practical day-to-day work and for health policy co-design tasks that higher-level personnel in the healthcare sector are increasingly faced with.
Target Group
The MHA Unibe program is aimed at higher-level personnel from all areas of the healthcare sector and health policy. This includes hospitals and other institutions of clinical practice, public health care facilities, state health authorities, cost carriers, the pharmaceutical and medical technology industry, healthcare consulting, training institutions, associations, welfare institutions, and more. Each program cycle strives for a good distribution not only across different areas but also regarding professional affiliation, as this interdisciplinary and cross-professional composition of the participant group is experienced as particularly enriching and conducive to understanding.
Curriculum and Structure
The program encompasses at least 60 ECTS credits and includes:
- The DAS program in Health Administration MiG,
- A final module worth 2 ECTS credits (5 course days),
- Modules worth 1-2 ECTS credits each (2-3 course days), totaling at least 4 ECTS credits,
- A Master's thesis worth 14 ECTS credits.
The curriculum combines contributions from various scientific disciplines necessary for addressing practical problems in healthcare management. It covers the following subject areas:
- Personal and social competencies,
- Healthcare, medicine, and public health,
- Health economics and policy,
- Health law and policy,
- General management content,
- Special management content.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the MHA Unibe program requires:
- A university degree, preferably in medicine, law, economics, administrative sciences, or other scientific fields,
- Professional practice in a healthcare position,
- Management and leadership experience,
- Completion of the DAS Health Administration MiG with a overall grade of at least 5 (between 4.75 and 5.25).
Exceptions to these requirements can be approved by the program leadership on a case-by-case basis. For individuals without a university degree or professional practice, additional requirements may be set to ensure they can successfully complete the program.
Costs and Funding
The total cost for the program is CHF 58,500. This includes course materials, lunch, and refreshments. Accommodation and travel expenses are the responsibility of the participants.
