Program Overview


Notariatsausbildung Program

The Notariatsausbildung program is designed for individuals seeking to obtain the Bernese notary patent. To be admitted to the notary examination, candidates must meet specific requirements.


Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the notary examination, candidates must:


  • Have obtained a law degree (Lizentiat or Master's diploma) from a Swiss university or a equivalent university degree from a state with which Switzerland has a mutual recognition agreement, and for which the state grants reciprocal rights for admission to the notary examination.
  • Have completed practical training in the canton of Bern.
  • Have passed the preliminary examination in "Financial Accounting I - Basics" (KSL-No. 3666) at the University of Bern.
  • Submit a certificate of capacity.

Additional Information

The notary system in the canton of Bern was transferred to the cantonal land registry office as of July 1, 2021. For information on the notary examination, please refer to the relevant ordinance. The lecture "Financial Accounting I - Basics" is offered by the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (WISO).


Enrollment

Candidates who wish to participate in the notary training program must enroll at the University of Bern. The ZIB (Admissions, Enrollment, and Counseling) is responsible for handling enrollments.
