Program Overview
University of Geneva Faculty of Law Doctoral Program
The Faculty of Law at the University of Geneva offers a doctoral program that provides support and mentoring to doctoral students. The highest degree awarded by the Faculty, the doctorate requires in-depth and original individual research work leading to the writing of a thesis (monograph) over a maximum period of five years. Admission is based on application, and applications are open to holders of a full university degree in law or equivalent qualifications.

After the Defense
Steps to be Taken
- Request the issuance of an imprimatur number after receiving the letter from the Faculty.
- Follow the procedures described in the Archive ouverte documentation.
- Remain enrolled until receiving the diploma sent by the UNIGE Diploma Office, which confers the title of Doctor of Law.
- Consult the information on publication in the Collection Genevoise.
- Consult the information on Open Access and financing.

The Faculty of Law is located at Boulevard du Pont-d'Arve 40, 1211 Genève 4. It comprises various departments, research centers, and platforms, including the Ecole d'avocature (ECAV) and the Plateforme pour le droit international de l'eau douce.
Research Areas
The Faculty of Law offers researchers and doctoral students a conducive environment in terms of documentary resources and mutual intellectual stimulation. It is active in areas such as digital law, technology and legislative evaluation, banking and financial law, international humanitarian law and human rights, European law, art law, and environmental law.
