University Program Information

The University of Geneva offers a range of programs for students.

Doctoral Program

The Faculty of Law at the University of Geneva proposes the accommodation and supervision of doctoral students. The doctorate is the highest degree awarded by the Faculty and requires individual, in-depth, and original research work, culminating in the writing of a thesis (monograph) over a maximum period of five years. Admission is based on a dossier. The application is open to holders of a complete university education in law or equivalent diplomas.

Research Areas

The Faculty of Law offers a conducive environment for researchers, with resources such as documentation and intellectual stimulation. It also provides the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of its active research centers in areas such as digital law, legislative technique and evaluation, banking and financial law, international humanitarian law and human rights, European law, art law, and environmental law.

After the Defense

Steps to be Taken

1. After finalizing the final version of the thesis, taking into account the requests of the jury, request the imprimatur (printing authorization).
2. Deposit the thesis in the Open Archive, also providing the imprimatur signed by the dean.
3. Consult the information on publication in the Collection Genevoise.
4. Consult the information on Open Access and financing.
