Program Overview
Introduction to the Program
The DiplŰme de formation continue (DAS) in Dťfis en protection de lenfance: politiques, droits et capacitťs (Challenges in Child Protection: Policies, Rights and Capabilities) is a comprehensive program designed to develop a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding child protection policies, practices, and challenges.
Objectives
The primary objectives of this program are to:
- Develop an intercantonal vision of the theme, concretized by teaching on four sites
- Acquire an interdisciplinary approach, including international comparative studies on questions surrounding child protection
- Deepen understanding of key concepts in the field of children's rights, particularly in their daily implementation
- Bring together field expertise with scientific research
- Foster exchanges between professionals from different backgrounds, cantons, and formations to develop useful communication channels in handling cases
Public
This DAS program is aimed at professionals, managers, and project leaders in the field of child and youth protection (protection, justice, social work, health, etc.), who cooperate with different cantonal services or private actors and/or assume a respondent role for their teams or colleagues.
Competences Visťes
Upon completion of this DAS, participants will be able to:
- Analyze the complexity of child protection policies, practices, and challenges
- Foster the establishment of professional networks from different professional fields active in the domain of child protection and child policy
- Know and evaluate the results of scientific research on the impact of practices and policies to support innovation in existing strategies in this field
- Propose a reflective approach on the centrality of the person and the role of human rights, supporting the listening and speech of the child, among others
- Adopt a professional posture based on children's rights, taking into account the protection issues that traverse this field
Programme
The program consists of 4 modules:
- Module 1 L'enfant et ses droits au dťfi de la complexitť du systŤme de la protection de l'enfance (The Child and Their Rights in the Face of the Complexity of the Child Protection System)
- Module 2 Politiques publiques et partage des pouvoirs dťcisionnels: quelle vision globale pour la protection de l'enfance? (Public Policies and Sharing of Decision-Making Powers: What Global Vision for Child Protection?)
- Module 3 Recherches empiriques en protection de l'enfance: perspectives, outils et innovations (Empirical Research in Child Protection: Perspectives, Tools, and Innovations)
- Module 4 L'enfant acteur, capacitťs et vulnťrabilitťs (The Child as Actor, Capabilities, and Vulnerabilities)

The DiplŰme de formation continue (DAS) in Dťfis en protection de lenfance: politiques, droits et capacitťs is jointly awarded by the University of Geneva and the Hautes …coles de Travail social of the HES-SO, upon proposal by the program's steering committee, once all the conditions required by the study regulations are met.

- Description: Each module is divided into 2 x 2 days (Thursday/Friday and Friday/Saturday)
Mťthodes d'Enseignement/Modalitťs Pťdagogiques
The methodology is varied and innovative, including an intercantonal vision of the theme, an interdisciplinary approach, and the deepening of key concepts in the field of children's rights.
Evaluation
Each module is subject to an evaluation that takes the form of one or more oral and/or written tests. The final study work and tests must be completed within the required deadlines.
