Introduction to the Doctoral Program

Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the doctoral program, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Possess a Master's degree in translation or interpretation from the FTI or an equivalent and relevant degree for the chosen curriculum and proposed doctoral topic.
- Submit a preliminary project (one to three pages) accompanied by a CV, specifying the chosen curriculum and describing the research objective.
- The preliminary project aims to spark the interest of a FTI professor in the proposed topic.
Application Procedure
The application procedure involves the following steps:
- Preliminary Project: Candidates submit a preliminary project to the academic advisor of the Faculty.
- Dossier of Candidature: Candidates submit a dossier of candidature, which includes:
- A detailed thesis project (see the document "Recommandations en vue de la rédaction dun projet de thčse")
- A letter of motivation addressed to the College of Professors of the FTI
- A formal agreement from a FTI professor to supervise the thesis
- A personalized doctoral program established in agreement with the thesis director
- A detailed CV in French (dated and signed)
- A certified copy of the highest degree diploma
- A simple copy of all other diplomas
- A copy of exam grades
- A portfolio and list of publications (if applicable)
- Translations for diplomas not issued in French, German, English, Italian, or Spanish
Conditional Admission
Admission to the doctoral program may be granted conditionally. Candidates must:
- Submit a dossier of candidature without a detailed thesis project, but including the accepted preliminary project.
- Commit to finalizing the detailed thesis project within one year of conditional admission (see the Teaching Regulations).
Unconditional Admission
Admission to the doctoral program may be granted unconditionally by submitting a dossier of candidature that includes a detailed thesis project.
Research Methods in Translation and Interpreting Studies (ReMeTIS)
All FTI doctoral students are required to follow the ReMeTIS program, which covers methodological and strategic issues related to the doctoral program. The program is based on collaborative learning and peer tutoring.
